Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then I assume you’ve seen the Moldy Whopper campaign by Burger King? But have you seen the testing results?

Just in case you haven’t seen the ad, here it is again:

My initial reaction when I saw it was yuk. Then I post rationalised the strategy and thought maybe it’s getting cut through. But then I landed firmly in the “it’s bad” camp.

So I was interested to read about System1’s analysis of it. I’ll add the link at the bottom of this post.

1 star from testing

In short, they tested the ad using their Test Your Ad system. Unsurprisingly, the ad scored rock bottom with 1 star only. 

‘Disgust’ was the dominant reaction.

Thank the Lord I say. It’s time for marketers to get away from short term shockism, and focus on long-term seduction.
